b) 18th - 25th June
Painting with John Skinner
c) 25th June - 2nd July
We will be staying at an agriturismo close to, and with overlooking views of the culturally rich, medieval and once Etruscan town, Volterra.
The Stone Carving course, led by sculptor Sarah Moore will suit both beginners and the more experienced. Alabaster stone will be used on this course and there will be visits to local workshops in Volterra to gather ideas and valuable resource material. Stone carving tools will be provided.
The Painting course, led by Penny Balding, runs parallel to the stone carving course and covers varying aspects of drawing and painting. There will be the opportunity to respond to the environment as well as having sustained working time in the town of Volterra. Boards and other basic materials are provided but you will need to bring your own paints, brushes etc.
There will be excursions for both carvers and painters which will include San Gimignano and Siena.
Volterra:
A medieval walled town with Etruscan origins. The 6th century BC gate still exists. One of the earliest Italian city states, it has a 12th century Palazzo del Priori or civic centre. Alabaster from Volterra was used by the Etruscans for their carvings (which can be seen in the museum) and the town again became the centre of the carved alabaster industry from the 19th century to present.

Tuition, en-suite accommodation, mostly full board with local wine, transport for all trips in Italy with pick-up and drop-off at Pisa airport.
