Excursions

Our first stop will be Tuscania, now medieval in character, but the site of the ancient Etruscan Acropolis or civic centre. We will visit Tarquinia before moving north to Sovana, Soreno and Ptigliano areas in Southern Tuscany, the region of the 'civita del Tufo' linked by ancient 'caverna'; also visiting the unusual excavations at Vulci; we then travel via Siena (a one day visit) to Volterra, a walled town in the north of the Etruscan empire.

Non participants may also visit Saturnia and environs and San Quirico. Wherever possible, we will walk along the ancient Etruscan 'Caverna' which link towns in some of these areas.
