BasilicataBasilicata

Southern Italy
Spring in Basilicata

28th May - 9th June 2009

What to expect: We stay for the duration of the holiday at an agriturismo which has proved very successful for the exploring trips in the past. We spend time in this area for a more developed painting holiday similiar to the Umbrian Villa Holiday . The emphasis will be on studio-based painting, with occasional excursions.

Summer in Basilicata - 6 nights.
Draw, Paint & Explore

25th Aug - 3rd Sep 2009

What to expect: From the arrival point we travel to the Vultura mountain range in Basilicata, which will be our first place to stay and work.

We will be visiting and staying at three very different areas within Basilicata to experience the flavour of this diverse region. The region is at quite a high altitude and the late August temperature is significantly lower than normally associated with southern Italy. You will need to be reasonably fit and able. Basilicata is not flat.

Suitable for all abilities and using easy to carry materials, the emphasis will be on drawings and exploring with sketch-book work at a variety of locations. There will be an opportunity for studio work at Miglionico.

LazioLa Tuscia

Etruscan Lazio and Tuscany
Draw, Paint & Explore

8th - 19th September 2009.

What to expect: From the arrival point at Pisa, our first stop will be Tuscania, now medieval in character, but the site of the ancient Etruscan Acropolis or civic centre. We will visit Tarquinia before moving north to Sovana, Soreno and Ptigliano areas in Southern Tuscany, the region of the 'civita del Tufo' linked by ancient 'caverna'; also visiting the unusual excavations at Vulci; we then travel via Siena (a half day visit) to Volterra, a walled town in the north of the Etruscan empire.
For 12 days we will be exploring, drawing and sketching in this culturally rich area. The variety of places we have chosen to stay, visit and work gives ample scope for artists to gather resource material and a chance to try out new and interesting ways of responding to the surroundings.

You will must to be reasonably fit and able. Suitable for all abilities, the emphasis will be on drawing and sketch-book work at a variety of locations rather than studio painting.
